Gljúfrabúi Waterfall

Gljúfrafoss Waterfall

Update – July 10th, 2018: There is now a well maintained path that takes you from Seljalandsfoss to Gljúfrafoss. Not so hidden anymore!

Gljúfrafoss is a small and hidden waterfall just north of Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

How do you get there?

Gljúfrafoss waterfall is just 1km from Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Following the cliffs, walk 10 minutes north of Seljalandsfoss and you will catch a glimpse of it hiding behind the cliff face. To get inside of the canyon and into the pool area, you can enter through a small 2 meter wide opening in the front.

Why should you go?

You are probably already going to Seljalandsfoss waterfall, so take the 10 minute walk north to see this hidden gem that not very many tourists know about.

Tips & comments from our experience:

  • Once you enter the small opening at the front of the cliffs and enter the canyon, you will get wet. There is a constant and dense mist that fills the canyon.
  • If you have good rain gear or a poncho, wear it. I was stupid enough to wear a cotton sweater and it was completely drenched by the time I got out of the canyon.
  • I left my DSLR camera near the entrance because I was paranoid it would get too wet. I did bring in my GoPro in, but it was still hard to get a good shot as the mist kept hitting the lens.
